East Newark

East Newark is New Jersey's smallest borough.  It is bordered on the west by Newark, on the north by Kearny, and on the south and east by Harrison.  This tiny Borough, along the eastern bank of the Passaic River, encompasses a mere 64 acres or approximately 1/10 of a square mile.  As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 2,377 people, 767 households, and 605 families residing in the borough.

Although small in area, East Newark has a fully equipped recreation center for the youth that houses indoor and outdoor basketball courts, ping-pong and pool tables and plays host to seasonal soccer and hockey matches.  East Newark also maintains two playgrounds and a passive park and ball field on Sherman Avenue.

There is also a Senior Citizen Center on President Street.  The center provides a daily meeting place and lunch for our Senior Citizens.  The center also hosts a variety of events throughout the year such as holiday parties, dances and social events.

Throughout the past ten years, all major roadways in the Borough have been re-paved and equipped with handicapped accessible crosswalks.  The Police Department has been fully automated, and the Volunteer Fire Department is equipped with modern turnout gear and a state of the art fire engine and truck.

The East Newark School District serves students in kindergarten through eighth grade at East Newark Public School. For grades 9-12, public school students attend Harrison High School in Harrison, as part of a sending/receiving relationship with the Harrison Public Schools.
