Hasbrouck Heights has received funding from the New Jersey Department of Transportation’s (NJDOT) 2013 Municipal Aid program for Phase 6 of the Boulevard streetscape project.

The borough received $145,000 for the project. Borough Engineer Ken Job said the borough will bid out Phases 5 and 6 together. Phase 5 of the project will continue the work on the Boulevard to Hamilton and Walter avenues and Phase 6 will be the next two streets.

Some of the work will include replacement of sidewalks, decorative brick pavers, new lighting, benches and the replacement with trees to match the other streets.

The streetscape project started in 2009 with Jefferson Avenue and Washington Place and the majority of the project has been funded through NJDOT’s municipal aid program.

This year’s solicitation for funding resulted in 660 applications totaling more than $254 million for the $78.75 million available in funds from the Transportation Trust Fund.

"NJDOT is committed to providing statewide assistance for local governments for improvements to and preservation of the local transportation network," a letter from Gov. Chris Christie to Hasbrouck Heights said regarding the funding. "The completion of your project will help achieve this goal and pursue a transportation strategy that provides mobility through managing the local roadway system."
