Bergen County boy wins 50,000.00!

Roee Maor of Demarest won $50,000 on live TV Thursday night during the Nickelodeon “Kids’ Choice Sports 2015” awards in Los Angeles.
The 13-year-old soccer player had five chances to hit the goal’s crossbar with a shot from 30 yards away. With the show’s host, Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, standing next to him and the entire crowd at the Pauley Pavilion cheering him on, Roee wasted no time, hitting the crossbar on his very first shot. He and Wilson jumped up and down in celebration before Roee was handed the oversized check.
Roee was one of two North Jersey youth athletes with a chance at the prize on the show. Announced as “all the way from New York City,” 12-year-old D.J. Pokoj of Wayne didn’t hit the center of the target with the football on his five throws. Instead, he received two tickets to a Giants game.

Alligator in Elmwood Park NJ

Twenty-four hours after an alligator was pulled from a New Jersey river Wednesday morning, officials still are unsure how it got there.

"We do not know where the alligator came from," said a spokesperson for New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. "As it's uncommon to find alligators in New Jersey waterways, it's likely that someone let this alligator loose. As for the animal's future, we have a list of all zoos in New Jersey in addition to various education and scientific institutions out of state, so we will be reaching out to those contacts in order to find a new home for the alligator."

A person who was fishing in the Passaic River in Elmwood Park spotted the alligator in the river at about 8:30 a.m., according to Elmwood Park police. Police, firefighters and wildlife officials were all involved in capturing the animal.
